Pearls are organic by nature, grown in water from the living cells of a living creature. Like the oysters which formed them, they require moisture. Pearls are prone to damage from pollution and injury. They can't stand the heat, and they should definitely stay out of the kitchen.
Store pearls in a cloth bag or pouch seperately from other jewellery.
Apply cosmetics, perfume and spray products first, before putting pearls on.
Wipe pearls with a soft cloth after wear. Avoid jewellery cleaning solutions.
If pearls come in contact with food acids, clean them immediately with a soft cloth moistened in fresh water, then dry them with another soft cloth.
