Galwey Pearls Broome, Western Australia

Five Virtues

Before choosing your perfect Galwey pearl, there are 5 main characteristics to consider.

The first two will determine the pearls quality and value. A pearl with bright LUSTRE and a smooth SURFACE are highly prized.

The other three virtues, SIZE, SHAPE and COLOUR are more personal preferences to evaluate before falling for your very own pearl of distinction.

Lustre is the measure of a pearls’ iridescence and translucence that you see as light travels from deep within the nacre of the pearl. The finer the nacre, the more beautiful the pearl.

The surface or complexion of a pearl is also an indicator of pearl quality. The smoother the surface, the higher the quality of the pearl.

Generally between 10mm and 15mm, South Sea Pearls are occasionally found in larger sizes.

Pearls are graded into 8 main shape categories and selecting a shape is largely a matter of personal taste.

Pearls are available in a range of colours from shimmering whites to iridescent black.
